Where It's From?
The Origin — Forum Coffee's New Jersey Roastery
Crooked Column isn't a single origin — it's a blend. And a great blend is an art form. We select the best organic beans from our sourcing partners and blend them to create something greater than any individual origin: a consistently smooth, complex, satisfying medium roast that works beautifully every day, every brew method, and for every coffee drinker.
The name Crooked Column is a nod to Forum Coffee's architectural identity — the idea that real character comes from imperfection, not rigid uniformity. This blend was built to be interesting, not predictable.
How It's Roasted?
The Roast — Medium: Made for Every Method
Medium roast is the most versatile and most loved roast level — and Crooked Column is a master class in medium roast execution. The roast develops the walnut warmth, chocolate depth, and cherry brightness of our organic blend while keeping the body smooth and approachable.
Whether it goes into a drip machine on a Tuesday morning or a careful pour over on a Sunday afternoon, Crooked Column delivers every time.
Why It's Good For You?
Health Benefits of Crooked Column Organic Coffee
Coffee contains more antioxidants than blueberries, kale, acai, and dark chocolate combined — and our USDA organic medium roast maximizes those levels by preserving chlorogenic acids throughout the roasting process.
USDA Certified Organic means every bean in this blend was grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers — giving you the cleanest possible cup with absolutely nothing harmful added.
Daily organic medium roast coffee is consistently linked to improved blood vessel function, reduced arterial inflammation, and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke with regular moderate consumption.
The balanced caffeine in this medium roast naturally blocks adenosine — your tiredness neurotransmitter — improving focus and alertness every morning without the harsh energy spike or afternoon crash.
Drinking organic coffee daily delivers a consistent supply of anti-inflammatory polyphenols that combat chronic low-grade inflammation — a key factor in heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and accelerated cellular aging.
Organic farming produces beans grown in healthier, more mineral-rich soil, allowing coffee plants to absorb more natural nutrients — which end up concentrated in every single cup you brew.
Brewing
How to Brew? - Best Methods for Crooked Column Coffee
-
1Heat & Grind
Heat fresh filtered water to 200°F and grind your Crooked Column beans to a medium consistency — this coffee works beautifully in any brew method so the medium grind is your universal starting point.
-
2Measure Grounds
Add 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per 6oz of water into your drip machine, pour over, or French press. For a bolder cup, increase to 1.5 tablespoons per 6oz.
-
3Brew Your Way
For drip machines, brew on a standard setting with fresh filtered water. For pour over, bloom the grounds with a small initial pour for 30 seconds before adding the rest of the water slowly over 2.5–3 minutes.
-
4French Press Method
For French press, use a coarse grind instead of medium, pour all the water over the grounds, place the lid on, and steep for exactly 4 minutes before pressing.
-
5Pour Immediately
Once brewing is complete, pour your coffee immediately into your cup — don't leave it sitting on a hot plate or in the French press, as it will continue extracting and become bitter.
-
6Taste the Layers
Enjoy it black first and notice the layers — the warm walnut nuttiness comes first, followed by a smooth chocolate body, and the bright cherry note lifts the finish. This is Forum Coffee's signature blend at its best.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a house blend coffee?
A house blend is a coffee that's been specifically developed and blended by the roastery — in our case, Forum Coffee — as their signature everyday coffee. Unlike single origin coffees (which come from one specific farm or region), a house blend combines the best qualities from multiple beans to create a balanced, consistent, crowd-pleasing cup. Crooked Column is Forum Coffee's signature.
What does Crooked Column coffee taste like?
Warm walnut nuttiness, smooth milk chocolate body, and a bright cherry finish. It's a medium roast that's approachable and complex at the same time — satisfying enough for everyday drinking, interesting enough that you actually look forward to it each morning.
What is the best brew method for house blend coffee?
Crooked Column is one of the most versatile coffees we make — it works beautifully with drip machines, pour over, French press, espresso, AeroPress, and cold brew. If you have a drip machine at home or at the office, this is your perfect daily coffee. For weekend brewing, pour over reveals the individual flavor layers most clearly.
Is house blend or single origin coffee better?
Neither is objectively better — they're different experiences. Single origin coffees (like our Guatemala or Ethiopia) offer distinct, region-specific flavor characters. House blends like Crooked Column are designed for consistency, balance, and everyday drinkability. Many coffee lovers enjoy both: a house blend as their daily coffee and single origins as a weekend treat.
Is Crooked Column good for espresso?
Yes — it makes excellent espresso. The walnut warmth and chocolate body produce a smooth, sweet shot with good crema and no bitterness. It also works very well as the base for lattes and cappuccinos, where the chocolate notes shine through milk beautifully.
How long does a bag of coffee stay fresh after opening?
Whole bean coffee at room temperature in an airtight container stays at peak flavor for approximately 2–4 weeks after opening. Always store away from heat, light, and moisture. Grind only what you need just before brewing — ground coffee goes stale much faster than whole bean.
Is Crooked Column coffee good for cold brew?
Yes — one of the best uses for it. The walnut and chocolate notes translate beautifully into cold brew, and the cherry finish adds a natural sweetness. Use a coarse grind, 1:8 coffee to cold water ratio, steep for 12–16 hours in the fridge. No sugar needed — this cold brew is naturally sweet.
Why should I choose organic house blend coffee over regular coffee?
When a coffee is your everyday cup — the one you drink 365 days a year — the quality of what's in it matters more than for occasional drinks. Organic certification means no synthetic pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, and cleaner soil. You taste the difference, and your body notices it over time too.
